Put the mask on now...
This week on Weirdhouse Cinema, we round our three weeks of 3-D movies with 1961's The Mask. It's a pretty historic film in that it was both the first Canadian full-length 3-D feature AND the first full-length Canadian horror film. Plus, as we discuss, it's pretty solid in a number of ways. The 3-D sequences are surreal and bizarre, the performances are solid and it boasts some impressive experimental electronic music to drive home the unreality of the mask-induced visions.
What's up next on Weirdhouse Cinema? Well, we realized we hadn't done a 1990s film ALL YEAR, and we've been hitting the horror genre pretty hard, so how about the 1994 time-travel kick-em-up Timecop?
In the meantime, be sure to check out the merch store and follow us on Letterboxd! All the movies we've covered are listed there in our list and you can click "read notes" to get links to the individual episodes posted here.
