Once more we went the wild world of 1980s Taiwanese fantasy cinema...
Back in August, we discussed the intensely psychotronic Taiwanese action fairy tale Thrilling Bloody Sword and today we return to these same cinematic waters with the 1987 cult classic Child of Peach.
It's a relentlessly weird film full of magic children, a sentient giant peach, demons, hell-escapees, sizzling martial arts and loads of gags.
Now, as mentioned in the episode, Everything is Terrible assembled an excellent two-minute cut of the film that will certainly give you a taste of what to expect -- but it's still only a taste sampler of the full-course Weirdhouse meal that is Child of Peach.
As for the full film, it's hard to come by. You'll find some good streams of it online, but as of now there's not a solid release to point to. You'll probably find it in Mandarin with hard-coded dual-language subtitles that are difficult to read in either language. But it's still worth the experience!
What's next on Weirdhouse Cinema? Oh, how about The Day of the Triffids from 1962? In the meantime, be sure to check out the merch store and follow us on Letterboxd! All the movies we've covered are listed there in our list and you can click "read notes" to get links to the individual episodes posted here.
